Anxiety Disorder Treatment Online
Anxiety disorders involve more than temporary worry or fear. For a person with an anxiety disorder, the anxiety does not go away and can get worse over time.
Hometown NP provides psychiatric evaluation and medication management via telehealth.
By the Numbers
Anxiety disorders affect 40 million US adults (18.1% of the population) each year, making them the most common mental illness in the country.
Anxiety disorders can affect anyone at any age. They often first appear during childhood, adolescence, or early adulthood. Women are diagnosed at roughly twice the rate of men.
When to seek help
Seek professional help when anxiety persists for 6 or more months, interferes with work or relationships, causes you to avoid situations you once enjoyed, or is accompanied by physical symptoms like chest pain or panic attacks.
Understanding Anxiety Disorder
Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health condition in the United States, yet they remain underdiagnosed and undertreated. Unlike the normal anxiety most people experience before a job interview or a difficult conversation, an anxiety disorder involves persistent, excessive worry that interferes with daily functioning — at work, in relationships, and in everyday activities.
Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), the most common form, is characterized by chronic, uncontrollable worry about a range of topics — health, finances, relationships, work performance. Other anxiety disorders include social anxiety disorder, specific phobias, separation anxiety disorder, and agoraphobia. Many people experience more than one type simultaneously, and anxiety frequently co-occurs with depression.
The good news: anxiety disorders are among the most treatable mental health conditions. A combination of psychotherapy (particularly CBT, provided by a licensed therapist) and psychiatric medication management can produce meaningful improvement. Hometown NP PMHNPs provide telehealth evaluation and medication management; psychotherapy is a separate service.

How Anxiety Is Diagnosed at Hometown NP
During your first telehealth appointment, your Hometown NP PMHNP will conduct a structured clinical interview using standardized assessment tools (such as the GAD-7 scale) to evaluate the type, severity, and duration of your anxiety symptoms. They will also screen for co-occurring conditions like depression and PTSD, review your medical and psychiatric history, and discuss any medications you currently take. A diagnosis is made based on DSM-5 criteria. The evaluation typically takes 60–75 minutes.
